KU GLOBAL AID PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATE

KU Global Aid is an international service-learning program for Koc University students, with the main motivation to create social impact using the tools of social entrepreneurship, human-cantered design, and sustainable building in line with the necessities of the 21st century. In Fall 2020, OIP started to implement a skill training program for KUGA students to develop their 21st century skills and to offer a better-quality KUGA experience. The trainings are given by the expert instructors under the supervision of OIP to develop students’ skills in team work, communication, leadership, decision making and problem-solving. In that manner, 3 trainings will be offered per academic year.

Requirements for KUGA Participation Certificate

1- Being an active member of KU Global Aid for 1 academic year

2- To attend 3 skill workshops

3- To attend 2 KUGA Talks or other events organized by KU Global Aid

4- To be part of organization team for an event organization or content creation

1- Being an active member of KU Global Aid for 1 academic year

Every KUGA students are required to attend actively intergroup communication and periodic meetings by not exceeding of the 3 absences per semester with the exception of special situations such as illness or exam. In addition to that, students are expected to participate the organizational and operational actions of KUGA by completing one of the following requirements throughout an academic year.

Requirements to be an active KUGA member:

  • To take responsibility in the recruitment process,
  • To act as a mentor and to keep track of the progress of the general works as far as the least responsibility is carried out for the regular committee,
  • To take responsibilities in KUGA projects,
  • To take responsibilities in organizational and operations activities of KUGA,
  • To take responsibilities in sponsorship, competition and fund applications

2- To attend 3 skill workshops

KUGA students are required to attend 3 skill workshops throughout an academic year of which the design thinking workshop is mandatory. The workshops aim to increase 21st century skills of KUGA students, and focus on topics such as group work, communication, leadership, decision making and problem-solving. Design Thinking workshop is mandatory for all KUGA students, whereas the students can choose the other 2 optional skill workshops.

3- To attend 2 KUGA Talks or other events organised by Ku Global Aid

KUGA aims to organize 6-8 KUGA Talks and 1 open-to-public event each academic year. KUGA students are expected to participate 2 of these events organized by KUGA.

4- To be part of organization team for an event organization or content creation

KUGA is an active student community that organizes seminars, talks and panels in order to raise awareness amongst students. With that aim, KUGA organizes campus-wide KUGA Talks series every semester by inviting leaders from NGOs and social enterprises. Moreover, KUGA organizes open-to-public panels to raise awareness on global topics and meet academicians, civil society leaders and citizens around the world under a selected KUGA topic; such as migration, gender inequality and social cohesion. KUGA students are expected to participate in organization and communication of these events in one of the following ways;

Event organization:

  • To follow the communication process and invite the prospect hosts
  • To hold the necessity alumni communication with KUGA Alumni for prospect event collaborations
  • To communicate with KU Communication Office to follow the required procedure for counting the events as Univ.101 seminars
  • To prepare Zoom links and shared the necessary information with the hosts and the students

Content Creation:

  • To design promotional materials and to provide content for the events, such as social media posts, KU Daily posts, website announcements and e-mails
  • To create content for Medium blog regarding the activities of KUGA
  • To create content for Ku Global Aid’s web site
  • To organize an event open to campus within the KUGA Alumni network

Note: Ku Global Aid’s activities and requirements for those activities can change over years, hence the requirements enumerated in this document can change.

Governance and Management

KUGA Participation Certification is exclusive for KUGA students only. The completion of the relevant responsibilities of the students is followed by the co-chairs of KUGA and the program coordinator in OIP. Students are entitled to a certificate of attendance prepared by OIP when they complete all the requirements without waiting for their graduation.
